Wholetimed Stations
Wholetimed stations have fire-fighters ready to answer a call from the station 24hours a day 7 days a week. The fire-fighters work in watches, Red, Blue, White and Green. Each watch takes it in turn to be on duty. The crews work 2 days 9am to 6pm then 2 nights 6pm to 9am, then 4 days off.
Day Crewed Stations are only manned during the day, meaning fire-fighters are only at the fire station 9am to 5pm. Then the same crew of fire fighters have bleepers which sound if there is a fire call any time between 5pm and 9am. The fire-fighters have to live within a mile of the station.
Retained stations are crewed by fire-fighters with bleepers, but these fire-fighters have other jobs within 1mile of the station and respond to a call from the bleepers.
